Senior Bookkeeper / Accountant

Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Salary: Up to £35,000 DOE
Hours: Part-time (approx. 22–24 hours, Monday–Thursday) — Full-time considered

A forward-thinking, tech-driven accountancy practice in Crawley is seeking a confident Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy, client interaction and a varied workload, with genuine room to grow as the firm expands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage bookkeeping for a mixed portfolio of clients including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies

  • Process purchase and sales invoices using Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Dext and Hubdoc

  • Complete weekly and monthly reconciliations for bank, credit card and loan accounts

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns (Standard, Flat Rate, Cash Accounting) ensuring MTD compliance

  • Handle CIS returns and complete monthly/quarterly PAYE/CIS reconciliations

  • Maintain accruals, prepayments and fixed asset registers

  • Communicate with clients to obtain missing information and ensure accurate, timely records

  • Support year-end preparation and liaise with the accounting team

  • Lead on MTD ITSA readiness from April 2026

  • Assist with onboarding new clients

About You

  • AAT Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent experience)

  • At least 2 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally within practice

  • Confident using Xero, QuickBooks, Dext and cloud-based systems

  • Strong understanding of UK VAT, CIS and payroll journals

  • Excellent reconciliation and problem-solving skills

  • Able to work independently and communicate effectively with clients

  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to the Crawley office
