Location: Surrey (Hybrid Working – 3 days office / 2 days home)

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join a growing and supportive accountancy environment. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of payroll operations across a varied client portfolio, delivering an accurate, compliant and high-quality payroll service.

This role would suit someone with strong UK payroll knowledge, excellent organisational skills and experience managing multiple payrolls in a client-facing environment.

The Role

As Payroll Manager, you will oversee end-to-end payroll delivery across a portfolio of clients, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, efficiently and in line with current legislation. You will act as a trusted point of contact for payroll queries while supporting continuous improvement across payroll processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Management

  • Manage and process payroll accurately and on schedule across multiple clients
  • Calculate salaries, overtime, bonuses, deductions and payroll adjustments
  • Manage both salaried and timesheet-based payrolls
  • Process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP
  • Complete HMRC submissions including RTI filings
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, National Insurance and pension requirements
  • Produce payroll documentation including payslips, P45s and P60s
  • Support year-end payroll activities and P11D reporting where required

Pensions & Benefits Administration

  • Administer workplace pension schemes and monthly submissions
  • Manage salary sacrifice arrangements and employee benefits administration
  • Ensure deductions and employer contributions are processed correctly

Employee Records & Payroll Administration

  • Maintain accurate payroll records for starters, leavers and contractual changes
  • Manage holiday, absence and statutory leave records
  • Ensure GDPR compliance and secure handling of employee data

Employee & Client Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for payroll-related queries
  • Resolve payroll issues efficiently and professionally
  • Provide guidance on payroll compliance and best practice

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Stay up to date with UK payroll legislation and tax regulations
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with HMRC requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems and processes

About You

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in a Payroll Manager, Senior Payroll Administrator or similar payroll leadership role
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, NI and pensions
  • Experience managing multiple payrolls and pay frequencies
  • Confidence using payroll and HR systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and relationship-building ability
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High levels of discretion and professionalism
