Part-Time Accounts Assistant

💷 £35,000–£40,000 pro rata

Our client, a well-established SME based in Leatherhead, is seeking a Part-Time Accounts Assistant to support their day-to-day finance function. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to a proactive and detail-focused accounts professional who enjoys working in a small, collaborative environment.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Director, the Accounts Assistant will be responsible for core bookkeeping and accounting activities, as well as providing wider administrative support across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recording daily financial transactions

  • Maintaining accurate ledgers, journals, and account records

  • Reconciling bank, credit card, and merchant accounts

  • Processing supplier invoices and managing payments

  • Preparing and issuing customer invoices

  • Managing accounts receivable and chasing overdue balances

  • Maintaining supplier and customer data

  • Assisting with payroll preparation, timesheets, and employee records

  • Calculating benefits, deductions, and reimbursements

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports

  • Producing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports

  • Supporting year-end accounts and audit preparation

  • Assisting with budgeting, expense tracking, and variance analysis

  • Completing VAT submissions

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in an accounts, bookkeeping, or finance administration role

  • Strong understanding of invoicing, reconciliations, and accounts receivable

  • Confident communicator with a professional manner

  • Able to work independently and manage competing priorities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook

  • Experience using cloud-based accounting software, ideally Xero

  • Previous experience within an SME environment is advantageous

Qualifications

  • AAT Level 3 or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
