MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT 

Initial 6 month FTC / Dorking (Hybrid)

Role in Brief

The Management Accountant is responsible for ensuring that the day to day processing of accounting transactions through our various software programmes is such that that the books and records of the Company are accurate and complete.  This will enable the production of accurate and timely financial information to the Financial Contoller for use by the senior management in running the business. This information will include, but not be limited to, Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow:

Close attention to detail, honesty and integrity are essential in this role.

Strong communication skills will be required as the role requires liaison with others both within the Company and externally with customers, suppliers, auditors etc.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Production of monthly management accounts and supporting schedules to predetermined timescales, including:
  • Production of project costing profit and loss account for all projects, including investigation of key variances against original profit expectation at order stage.
  • Monthly recurring revenue and cost analysis and investigation and explanation of variances against forecast and/or budget.
  • Operating costs analysis and investigation and explanation of variances against forecast and/or budget.
  • Monthly reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts, to include sales/purchase ledger, accruals, prepayments, accrued/deferred income and costs.
  • Preparation of bad debt provision and identification of any early stage issues.  To include processing of bad debt write off for VAT recovery.
  • Preparation of any other management accounting information and variance analysis as required.
  • Maintenance of journal entries and assistance with Sage 200 month end routine where required.
  • Attendance at monthly finance review meetings with other members of the Senior Management Team to assist with providing variance analysis commentary.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate application of any changes to accounting policy.
  • Assisting with cash management, review of bank reconciliations and production of monthly cash flow forecast.
  • Authorisation of supplier and other bank payments, where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that VAT is correctly coded and accounted for and responsibility for the production of the VAT return quarterly.
  • Ensuring all corporation tax and other HMRC payments are made on a timely basis and correctly accounted for.
  • Work with the Financial Controller with the production of payroll, data validation and processing of final information by payroll bureau.
  • Assisting with preparation of annual financial budgets and rolling updates to forecasts.
  • Supporting the external audit process, including liasing with auditors, with production of back-up schedules and documentation to verify accuracy of profit and loss and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assisting with the preparation and production of the year end statutory accounts and the interim financial statements.
  • Work alongside the Financial Controller to achieve the integration and transition to single financial operating model, including data preparation, validation and transfer between systems.
  • Supporting the Finance Team members, where necessary, with the pull over of information/transactions from the billing system in to the Sage 200 system.
  • Providing support and guidance to other members of the finance team to assist them with their objectives and their ongoing professional development.

 

5. Skills / Interests Required

  • Must be numerate and enjoy working with numbers
  • Experience of working with one or more computerised accounting packages
  • Must be IT literate with a good working knowledge of Office 365, especially Excel
  • Close attention to detail and accurate working is essential
  • Understanding of data privacy standards

  • Able to work under pressure with a calm temperament
  • Positive attitude and a desire to find solutions to problems as they arise
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organisational & planning skills with the ability to identify priorities and self-manage workload

6. Experience Required

Essential & demonstrable

  • Newly qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA) with relevant experience in a similar environment
  • Advanced Office 365, particularly Excel, is preferred
  • Knowledge of Sage 200 and Autotask is an advantage
