Are you an experienced IT professional ready to take the lead in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment? We are seeking a Senior IT Operations Technician to play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security and performance of our IT services.

This is a senior technical position within our IT Services team, offering the opportunity to shape and enhance a modern, cloud-focused IT environment while supporting a thriving school community.


About the Role

As a Senior IT Operations Technician, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational health of our IT systems, with a particular focus on cloud platforms, endpoint management and cyber security.

You will provide advanced 2nd and 3rd line support, oversee helpdesk operations, and act as a vital bridge between frontline support and core infrastructure. This role also supports our transition to a more proactive, service-led IT model.


Key Responsibilities

🔧 Technical Support & Infrastructure

  • Deliver 2nd and 3rd line support across all IT systems

  • Manage Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager (Autopilot, compliance, device lifecycle)

  • Administer Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)

  • Maintain servers, networks, backups and cloud services

  • Monitor performance, patching, endpoint security and threat response

  • Support incident management and post-incident reviews

🔐 Cyber Security & Compliance

  • Lead on endpoint and user security compliance

  • Support safeguarding through secure access and device controls

  • Contribute to audits, risk assessments and external reviews

  • Ensure adherence to data protection and acceptable use policies

🎧 Helpdesk & Service Delivery

  • Oversee daily helpdesk operations and ticket prioritisation

  • Identify trends and drive service improvements

  • Provide mentoring and support to junior IT staff

  • Maintain documentation and knowledge base

  • Coordinate device rollouts and classroom technology setups

🤖 Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement automation (e.g. Power Automate) to improve efficiency

  • Support AI and digital transformation initiatives

  • Contribute to ongoing service improvements and IT strategy

🤝 Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with the IT Network Manager on infrastructure projects

  • Support staff training and onboarding

  • Provide high-level IT support during key school events and peak periods


About You

We’re looking for a proactive, technically skilled individual who combines deep expertise with a strong service mindset.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in IT support or service management (education sector desirable)

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint

  • Hands-on experience with Intune or other MDM platforms

  • Experience with Windows Server, virtualisation, backups and firewalls

  • Knowledge of networking, cloud platforms and cyber security best practices

  • Experience managing helpdesk systems and workflows

  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
