IT Support Engineer - Networking Focus

Salary: £28,500 | Full-time | UK-based

Are you an IT support professional with a passion for networking? This is a great opportunity to join a well-established technology and communications business where networking sits at the heart of what you do and where you’ll have the chance to develop your skills across a broad range of infrastructure and connectivity solutions.

The Role

As an IT Support Engineer, you’ll be the primary point of contact for customers experiencing connectivity and network issues. Working within a busy service desk environment, you’ll take ownership of tickets from first contact through to resolution; troubleshooting LAN/WAN faults, VPN issues, firewall queries and wireless connectivity problems, as well as supporting clients across a wider range of managed IT services.

You’ll work within agreed SLAs, maintain accurate documentation, and liaise with third-party suppliers where needed. It’s a varied, hands-on role that will expose you to switching, routing, VLANs, subnetting, network monitoring tools and more, ideal for someone who wants to deepen their networking knowledge in a commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues, including LAN, WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi and firewall faults
  • Manage and prioritise tickets through to resolution, meeting individual and team SLA targets
  • Monitor network infrastructure using tools such as PRTG, Auvik or similar SNMP solutions
  • Support clients with Windows desktop and server environments alongside network-related queries
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of issues, fixes and client infrastructure
  • Liaise with third-party vendors and escalate where appropriate
  • Contribute to service improvement and share knowledge across the team

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 1 year of helpdesk or IT support experience
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, subnetting and the OSI model
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting LAN/WAN, VPN and Wi-Fi connectivity issues
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools (PRTG, Auvik or similar)
  • Experience with Windows 10/11, Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of firewalls and network security principles
  • CompTIA Network+ or CCNA (or working towards) — desirable but not essential
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach

The Package

  • £28,500 salary
  • Company pension scheme
  • Private healthcare
  • Life insurance
  • Real scope to grow and develop your networking career within an established technology business
